A Prague tour

Hello everybodyIt’s been some time I didn’t add any news here. But here I am, back to show you some pictures. As you know, BloodySugar is set in Czech Republic and many pages are set in Prague. This blog will be a bunch of pictures I took in Prague with some descriptions of that wonderful city. I hope you enjoy it!Prague is a wonderful city and I really love to travel there anytime I can. People are beautiful, welcoming and the surrondings are really inexpensive,  so you can have a lunch or dinner in any fancy restaurant, or sleep in cool hotels.  Food is delicious and very cheap. Czech Republic is also worldwide famous for its beer: the Pilsner beer style was invented here, in the city of Pilsen (wich i visited, but that’s for another blog… too many photos!).Prague is famous for its architectonical wonders. if you wish to travel there, you can’t miss the Prague Castle, the St. Vitus Cathedral inside the Castle and the astonishing royal gardens. The Narodni Muzeum is of course a place to visit: you have seen it on the comic so many times! If you love minerals that is the place to see, they hold the most impressive collection I’ve ever seen. Prague is also very famous for its Jewish Quarter and its beautiful houses and Synagogues. Here are some other shots. Don’t forget to pay a visit to the worldwide famous watch! But let the pictures talk. The beautiful fountain outside the MuzeumPrague fountainSt. Wenceslas statue. Author of this unique horsey statue is Josef Vaclav Myslbek and it comes from 1912. Bark at the moon!

…I couldn’t resist to title this blog like Ozzy’s song . :D

Let’s talk now about werewolves. In the latest BloodySugar Chapter (#6, precisely) we meet some new characters. Ladislas the werewolves Prince, and Anezka.

Two words about the names. Anezka is the Czech for Agnes. Means “Pure”. Ladislas is a Slavonian name (also Ladislav or Vladislav). Means glorious ruler, or glorious power.

The first studies for him and her kept Federico a bit busy. Here are some preliminary sketches.

The Werewolf Prince, Ladislas.

Hail to the Queen Bee(r)!

Hello everybody!
This time I’ll tell you a story about a beer label. Yes. :)
We have a friend who is a beekeper; he produces high quality organic honey in his family run company in Italy. ( http://www.apimed.com/) His hobby is to make homemade beer to drink with his friends. He always send us some (since he lives quite far from us…).
He likes BloodySugar comics.
Federico did a sexy Queen Bee picture quite similiar to Bette, since she’s our friend favourite character. He loved the result, you can see that drawing here:

Queen Bee

Later he asked Federico to design a beer label with for his beer (honey beer too!) he calls “Queen Beer”.
And this is the label! Colored by me, as usual.

Hope you like it. You should really try the homemade honey beer!

BloodySugar comics in-depth: Creating a cover for Ch. #5

Another Bloodysugar chapter is completed, and a new cover is needed for the next chapter: so I asked Federico to draw something sexy, with Bloodysugar sitting in a BDSM pose, wearing leather lingerie and holding a whip in her hands, and Professor Mircea and Irina’s faces on the background.
His preliminary sketch was something really small; about 0,7 inches large (or 2 cm), red ink on paper: you can see it here.
BloodySugar cover sketch 01

The position seemed good (even as small icon above!), but he did a larger sketch with Macromedia Flash and his tablet:

BloodySugar cover sketch 02

Poor Federico, sometimes he has to deal with me: I immediatly asked him for some fixings; I didn’t like the leather dress. Since the comic is set at the start of 1900 in Bohemia, even with all the freedom of a fantasy influence with magic and technomancers, I didn’t really like the latex looking modern outfit.
So I asked him to change the lingerie with something more… classic.

BloodySugar cover sketch 03

Good, good… I was delighted by the new outfit but something still didn’t look right to me: “please Federico, can you change the hair? Don’t draw them so windy and moving, I’d prefer straight, going down to the floor…”. Federico instead of kindly telling me to **** ***, just corrected the sketch for the second time. :P I also asked to remove Irina and Mircea, to give more breath to the image.

Look at the final sketch, ready to be inked and colored.

Now, the inked version that came to me for the coloring work.

Finally, the result! I hope you like it. This picture is available in the site in a larger resolution file and also as desktop wallpaper! See you next time. :)

BloodySugar comics in-depth: Fashion references

As you already know, BloodySugar comics start in 1899 in Bohemia so I’m always on the net searching for locations and fashion history, even if we feel free to change some details, since is a parallel 1899… where magic and alchemy worked much more than we know and where evil creatures run through the lands spreading fear and terror.

In page 3 and 4 we see Bette in different suits: a night dress and in the next page, a wedding dress…

Federico did a great job (as usual :)) slightly modifying the night dress to make it sexier:

Night Dress

This is a 1901 night dress. Bette wears something similiar here:

Bette Night dress

and here:

Bette Night dress 2

Then in the next page we see Bette in a wedding dress, while she’s sleepeing and dreaming…

Bette Wedding

Luckily we found some early 1900 bridal photos and references… here is the original dress Federico took inspiration from:

That’s all for now… I hope you liked our little research and the results!

Hugs and thanks

BloodySugar comics in-depth: Creating a page layout

Federico had some fun drawing the latest BloodySugar page (Page 11 of Chapter 3.) You can now view an animation of the entire layout creation process simply by downloading Open Canvas beta, (don’t worry there’s no need to INSTALL anything!)

Then just download the page sketch animation (0,99 mb zipped).

BloodySugar Open Canvas sketch

A couple of words about Open Canvas: it is great digital art software by PortalGraphics. You can buy the latest version from their website, but the v1.1 beta is FREEWARE. No need to install it, it just works. It’s in Japanese, but if you click the last button and choose “English” all will become a lot clearer!

Now you can start drawing and painting; if you need help, just read this tutorial: http://www.indeptharts.com/showthread.php?t=1502

BloodySugar In-depth: 1900 kitchen

Hello everyone!
Welcome to a new BloodySugar blog, an in-depth on the artwork.
As I already said, we often search for realistic inspiration for backgrounds and house settings, since the comic is set in the Eastern Europe 1899, in Bohemia, Romania and such. Of course you can find many fantastic elements like alchemy and technomancy, but basically Prague is Prague, and a late 1800 - early 1900 kitchen should be as much faithful as possible.
In issue 3 we met the nasty professor, Mircea, and her loyal and sexy maid Irina. In page 7, chapter III, we can see the kitchen of Mircea’s house;
Federico took inspiration from a 1900 kitchen reconstruction we found on the internet searching for photos.
Here is a preliminary sketch of the ambient, the old kitchen with the typical furnitures. Following, Mircea and Irina and irina in the kitchen.
Enjoy!

Bette…animated

Just a little experiment with lip-synch, still in rough form:
She delivers the over-used “Help me Obi-Wan” quote, I hadn’t a custom dialogue for this.^^ Enjoy!
